In a celebration of cultural richness and tranquility, the Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden in Pasadena announced it will host the Fifth Annual Pasadena Festival of Tea on Sunday, May 5, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Held in the traditional Japanese teahouse in the Japanese garden on Arlington Drive, the festival is a delight for tea lovers and garden lovers alike. Over the years, it has highlighted Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and contemporary fermented and herbal tea traditions.

The Festival of Tea is the Garden’s most popular event of the year, an announcement by the Garden said.

“Every registered guest will receive a special custom-made Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden tea tasting cup at check-in, and the tea specialists will offer samplings of their teas and share expert knowledge and advice,” the announcement said. “We will also be joined by ceramic artist Julie Bagish, who will be selling her beautiful Japanese-style tea ceremony and other tea wares.”

Additionally, the Garden’s gift shop, Takara-ten, will host a special Pop-up shop offering kimonos and a variety of vintage and antique items, with a special 10% discount for Garden donors.

One of the highlights of the festival will be the traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony Demonstrations held in the garden’s Niko-an Teahouse. Tea practitioner Mikko Nakatomi will conduct these demonstrations, serving guests Japanese tea and sweets while providing insights into the rich history and traditions of the tea ceremony.

The festival also aims to foster inclusivity, with free admission for children 12 and under. However, due to limited space, registration is required for the tea ceremony demonstrations, which will be held at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. in the Niko-an Teahouse.

Attendees can register for the event on the Garden’s website until May 4 at 5 pm. Walk-ins will be accepted on the day of the event as long as space permits.

While the garden is wheelchair-accessible, there are stairs to enter the teahouse, and pets are not allowed.
