Travel through time with Lineage Performing Arts Center’s artists at the upcoming “A Matter of Time” exhibit, which will feature interactive dance, theater, and storytelling.

The immersive exhibit takes guests on an interactive journey through the 1950’s to the year 2000. It will take place in Lineage Performing Arts Center at 920 E. Mountain St., from March 3-17.

For the exhibit, the center has transformed five rooms and each one will represent a decade, Hilary Thomas, artistic director of Lineage Dance Company, said.

“We have dancers who will be performing. Two live musicians will be playing all kinds of key songs from those decades,” Thomas said.

Thomas said there will be a narration of important events that occurred for each decade and guests will also have an opportunity to see artifacts from those times.

“We’ve been collecting people’s old prom pictures and old clippings from various newspapers, old tickets, and all kinds of things will be on display as a part of the exhibit,” said Thomas.

She continued: “We’ve been gathering articles and little news clippings of Pasadena in each of those times. So as you go through the exhibit, you’ll find a little Pasadena section as well.”

Thomas said the audience will be guided by Lineage artists as they travel either forward or backward in time.

As per Thomas, the center chose 1950s to 2000 so people could relate  to the performances.

“There are plenty of audience members who will have lived through each of those periods. It provides a certain amount of nostalgia that we wouldn’t get if we were looking at the twenties or the 1800s.”

According to Thomas, the Lineage Performing Arts Center is staging the exhibit to showcase their new space.

“We’ve got this beautiful new space. And I wanted to be able to show all of the different parts of the space and all of its potential. Usually audiences just come into the theater to see a show, but this time they will get a chance to see the whole space.”

Lineage artists have been practicing for the upcoming show over the last six months and Thomas believes the performances will be enjoyed not only by those who lived through 1950s-2000 but also by the young people of today.

“I think that high school students, and certainly young adults, who didn’t live through a number of those decades would really learn a lot about culture and history and then of course people who lived through these decades I think will really enjoy getting to immerse themselves in nostalgia.”

“It’s really a great opportunity for people to come and experience this relatively new space in their community where they can have a really exciting evening and travel through time a little bit but also be entertained and learn some new things.”

The upcoming event is approximately 2 hours long, including an intermission.

“We will have an opportunity on the dance floor, both during intermission and afterwards that everybody’s invited to the disco party to just dance,” said Thomas.
