What We’re (Sort of) Watching: ‘Argylle’ Opens in First Place with Disappointing $18 million

The star-studded spy movie “Argylle” opened atop the box office this weekend, taking in $18 million at North American theaters, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

It was a disappointing total for the action/comedy, whose budget was reportedly in the $200 million range. “Argylle” features Henry Cavill, Bryce Dallas Howard, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa, Ariana DeBose, John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson.

“The Chosen: Season 4 Episodes 1-3,” a multi-season drama about the life of Jesus Christ, opened in second place with $6 million, Comscore reported.

“The Beekeeper” was third with $5.2 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth week in theaters.

Fourth place went to “Wonka,” which took in another $4.7 million in its eighth week, followed by “Migration,” which grossed $4.1 million in its seventh week.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases were “Mean Girls” ($4 million), “Anyone But You” ($3.5 million), “American Fiction” ($2.3 million), “Poor Things” ($2.1 million) and “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” ($2 million).
