What We’re Watching: Black Adam’ Remains Atop Box Office with $18.5 Million

“Black Adam” remained atop the box office charts for the third straight weekend, taking in $18.5 million at theaters in the United States and Canada, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The DC Comics adaptation starring Dwayne Johnson beat out “One Piece Film Red,” an anime musical that opened with $9.4 million for second place, Comscore reported.

The Julia Roberts-George Clooney romantic comedy “Ticket to Paradise” was third, grossing $8.5 million Friday through Sunday in its third week in theaters.

Horror films took the next two spots, with “Smile” taking in $4 million in its sixth week of release, and “Prey for the Devil” grossing $3.8 million in its second week.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile” ($3.3 million), “The Banshees of Inisherin” ($2 million), “Till” ($1.8 million), “Halloween Ends” ($1.4 million) and “Terrifier 2” ($1.2 million).

This weekend’s overall three-day box office haul was estimated at $59.4 million. The year-to-date total is up to $6.23 billion — an increase of 95% over the figure at this time last year, according to Comscore.
