What We’re Watching: ‘Insidious: The Red Door’ Opens with $32.6M for Top Spot

“Insidious: The Red Door” opened with $32.6 million this weekend to lead all films in North America, according to industry estimates released Sunday.

The fifth entry in the horror franchise birthed by producer James Wan beat out “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which fell sharply from its $60 million opening gross last weekend to finish in second place with $26.5 million Friday through Sunday, Comscore reported.

The faith-based drama “Sound of Freedom” was third, opening with $18.2 million in theaters in the United States and Canada.

Pixar’s “Elemental” was fourth with $9.6 million in its fourth week, followed by “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” with $8 million in its sixth week of release.

Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “Joy Ride” ($5.8 million), “No Hard Feelings” ($5.2 million), “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” ($5 million), “The Little Mermaid” ($3.5 million) and “Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken” ($2.8 million).
