What We’re Watching: Super Bowl LVIII Sets Viewership Record

Published on Feb 13, 2024

CBS’ coverage of Super Bowl LVIII was the most- watched telecast in American history, according to Nielsen fast national and Adobe Analytics figures released Monday.

The Kansas City Chiefs’ 25-22 overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers Sunday in the longest NFL championship game averaged 123.4 million viewers on CBS, Paramount+, Nickelodeon, Univision, and CBS Sports, Univision and NFL digital properties.

The previous record was 115.1 million viewers for Fox’s coverage of Super Bowl LVII on Feb. 12, 2023.

This is the second consecutive year the Super Bowl has set a viewership record after none of the next seven Super Bowls were able to top the then-record of 114.81 million viewers for NBC’s coverage of the New England Patriots’ 28-24 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015.

One factor in the recent records was the addition of out-of-home viewing figures in September 2020.

Final national figures are scheduled to be released Tuesday but are not expected to change substantially from the fast national figures.
