What’s to Watch? Critics Choice Real TV Award Winners To Be Announced

Published on Jun 20, 2021

Winners of the third annual Critics Choice Real TV Awards will be announced Monday, with “RuPaul’s Drag Race” leading all contenders with five nominations.

The awards will be bestowed absent an actual live ceremony, with the Critics Choice Association planning to issue a statement announcing this year’s winners.

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” is among the nominees for best competition series, a category that also includes “The Amazing Race,” “The Great British Baking Show,” “Top Chef” and “Tough as Nails.”

For best talent/variety competition series, nominees are “American Idol,” “Legendary,” “The Masked Singer,” “The Voice” and “World of Dance.”

RuPaul Charles himself has two nods for his work on “Drag Race,” for best show host and male star of the year.

Also nominated for best show host are Oprah Winfrey, Stanley Tucci, Padma Lakshmi and John Oliver.

Tucci is also nominated with RuPaul for male star of the year, along with Trevor Noah, Guy Fieri and Phil Rosenthal. For female star of the year, nominees are Nicole Byer, Sandra Lee, Michelle Visage, Lakshmi and Samantha Bee.

The Critics Choice Association previously announced that it would be honoring the late Alex Trebek with an Impact Award honoring his career achievements.

According to the association, the Impact Award “recognizes an outstanding individual for career excellence and the positive impact they have made on the world of nonfiction content.”

Trebek, the longtime host of “Jeopardy!,” died in November after a battle with cancer.

“Mr. Trebek and his legacy epitomize what the Impact Award was created to honor,” according to the association. “His longstanding commitment to the pursuit of excellence, his continual encouragement of curiosity and his unfailing charm made Mr. Trebek one of television’s most respected and beloved figures. He was an inspiration to the nonfiction community that selected him for this award, and to the vast audience that welcomed him into their daily lives.”
