A Year Later, Pasadena City College Is Still Looking for New Campus Police Chief

Pasadena Community College is still looking for a new police chief almost a year after former PCC police chief Don Yoder was reportedly fired from the position of Director, Campus Police and Security Services.

Last week, Robert Miller, Senior Vice President for Business and College Services, advised the human resources office that the Pasadena Area Community College District is now ready to begin the search for candidates.

Terry Hampton, executive director for human resources, confirmed to the PCC Courier, the PCC student voice, that her office will start the recruitment process once a Post and Fill (the internal hiring document for PCC) is received.

Steven Matchan has been acting police chief since June last year after Yoder was placed on paid administrative leave. In November, the Board of Trustees decided to fire Yoder for undisclosed reasons. In January this year, Matchan was named interim Director, Campus Police and Safety Services.

The recruitment process will now pave the way for the appointment of a permanent police chief. The district has one year and a half to find one.

Matchan told the PCC Courier that whoever is hired to permanently fill the position “will have the support of a fine organization, employees and support staff to assist them.”

“When I became a police officer, I became an officer to serve, and I never forget that,” said Matchan. “I never forgot where I had been, where I came from, or whom I serve. So no matter what position I may fill in the near future I will serve the best I can.”
The new police chief will be the fifth that PCC has had since 2011.
