The Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education provisionally appointed Adrienne Ann Mullen, Ed.D., to fill the vacant District 3 seat on the PUSD Board of Education at a Special Board meeting June 27. Mullen will serve out the remainder of the current term for District 3 which expires May 1, 2017. The District 3 seat became vacant on May 4, 2015 when Tyron Hampton resigned his Board of Education seat after he was elected to the Pasadena City Council.

“I am pleased to welcome Adrienne Ann Mullen to the Board of Education,” said PUSD Board President Elizabeth Pomeroy, Ph.D. “The candidates who appeared before the board brought a diversity of ideas and backgrounds to serve the residents of District 3 and the district as a whole.”

Mullen, a Pasadena resident, is the parent of two current PUSD students. She is the Dean of Adult Education of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) where she most recently led the writing of the AB 86 Adult Education Planning Grant for LACCD in partnership with four school districts. During 13 years at LACCD, she worked with 17 community colleges to provide education and workshops for foster parents, providers and foster youth. Mullen has a Doctorate in Education from UCLA.

Ten applicants for the vacant seat were scheduled to be interviewed by the board before Board Member Mullen was selected. Details about the appointment process are available at www.boardvacancy.pasadenausd.org.
