Pasadenans will have one last chance to dine at Beckham Grill and Bar in Old Pasadena on Saturday, August 8th, before it finally closes its doors, and before apartment developers start tearing the place down.

Beckham staff posted the announcement on Facebook on July 7th inviting the public to “make your reservation to say goodbye to a Pasadena landmark.”

“It saddens us to inform all of our customers that we have lost our lease and Beckham Grill’s last day serving will on Saturday, August 8th. It was our privilege to be part of the community and we thank you for being our loyal guests for the past 37 years,” the post said.

“This place is a landmark restaurant. We’ve been here forever and we have a very loyal following, a lot of very sad customers that we’re going to be shutting down,” General Manager Ed Mysolveckhad said then.

Beckham was set up in 1978 and has been serving prime rib and other mostly English fare and drinks to happy customers since then. It was originally called Beckham place and was named Beckham Grill in 1999.

Recently, Greystar Development acquired the site previously occupied by the Pasadena Athletic Club and Beckham Grill. They plan to build about 200 apartment units with 10,000 square feet of ground floor retail, now in the final stages of design review.

As to what happens to the good old English-style pub that is Beckham, the owners, David and Hank Yost, plan to remodel what is currently Shakers Family Restaurant in Glendale with a brand new upscale and trendy concept.

“We hope to serve some of the same type of Beckham Grill meals there. It’s a 10-minute drive from here at Central Avenue,” Mysolveck said. They hope to have the bar and 180 seat restaurant remodeled by January.

The symbolic English taxicab and red phone booth out front at 25 West Walnut Street have long welcomed visitors into the cozy rooms of the English-style pub. Now, those and all the charming furnishings and memorabilia inside the pub will be up for sale.
