Free Online Tutoring Available 24/7

The Pasadena City College Learning Assistance Center, in partnership with Smarthinking, Inc., is offering free, online tutoring services to students 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The services, which can be accessed at www.pasadena.edu/smarthinking, is intended to supplement PCC’s award-winning, in-person tutoring programs.

“It’s 24/7 and helpful for students who study in the middle of the night, which we found out is 75 percent of all of its users,” said John C. Wood, director of the LAC.

Online tutors are available to work with students in a wide range of subjects, including writing (for any course), mathematics (basic through Calculus II), accounting, statistics, finance, economics, biology, anatomy and physiology, physics, chemistry, and Spanish.

Students can also submit a question and receive a reply from a tutor, or submit a paper for a tutor to review. With the service’s online writing lab, a professional writing tutor can provide a student with detailed, personalized feedback on a submitted essay, typically within 24 hours.

The service also allows for users to upload screenshots, pictures, or a PDF of a problem into a virtual whiteboard that can be accessed by both the student and tutor.

Located in the third floor of the D building on PCC’s main campus, the LAC is designed to offer academic support to students of PCC for the purpose of promoting scholastic success. In addition to tutoring services, the LAC offers pre-assessment workshops, access to ESL materials, video/DVD instruction, and a variety of resources in the area of study skills.
