A group of alleged gang members fought with Pasadena police and one gang member reportedly commanded his dog to attack officers in a confrontation this afternoon which sent one officer to a hospital and five suspects to jail.

The incident quickly escalated when officers arrived at an apartment complex in the 800 block of N. El Molino Avenue about 12:45 p.m. to investigate a report of gang members loitering and causing a disturbance.

Police said they were confronted by a man later identified as Robert Alcon, 48, a Pasadena resident. Alcon had a dog with him and reportedly gave a command to the dog to attack one of the officers.

Police said Alcon and other members of the group were “uncooperative, defiant, and refused to follow lawful orders and directions” issued by the officers.

A fight ensued, police said, during which a total of five people were arrested. Alcon was arrested for violently resisting.

The remaining four were arrested for interfering with police.

One officer sustained moderate injury during the incident. He was treated at a local hospital.

Police said in a statement that in addition to Alcon, also arrested were Jeanette Alvarez, 38; Ramon Preciado, 28; Eric Blanco, 22; and a 17 year-old boy.

All of those arrested are Pasadena residents.
