Homeless Man Charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon After Spitting on a Woman

A homeless man was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly spitting on a Pasadena woman as they were crossing the street, police said.

Maurice Spears, a 33-year-old transient on probation, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon after he spat on a woman in her mid 30s as she was crossing the street north on the 200 block of East Walnut around 6:50 p.m., said Lieutenant John Mercado of the Pasadena Police Department.

The woman called the police when she arrived home. Officers found the suspect near the old YMCA building on Marengo based on the description she gave them, Mercado said.

The woman later returned to the scene and identified him as her attacker and he was arrested, according to Mercado.

The investigation is still ongoing, he said.
