With exquisite music and exquisite food, the Mother’s Club Family Learning Center held its fifth annual Fall Food & Wine Festival Saturday evening.

Nearly 300 guests raised close to $90,000 for the center, dining on food provided by 19 local restaurants such as El Portal, Claud & Co, and the Meat District Co.

Eighty-seven silent auction items, ranging from Maui vacations, Dodger tickets, jewelry and tickets to the Pasadena Symphony drew bids and funds for the Club.

The Silver Lake Chorus provided a beautiful soundtrack to the evening’s festivities along with music from the Labrateers.

Host David Schmidt presided over the live auction, and presented Monica Gutian Munoz, a 21 year-old mother with an 18 month-old son in the Infant classroom, who shared her compelling story and gratitude for Mothers’ Club.

“We’re serving the most vulnerable here, those parents and children who are at-risk, and can’t always afford child care or preschool learning,” said Hector LaFarga, Jr., Executive Director. “This is why we are so grateful to those who come out twice a year to our fundraising event and help us do what we do.”

US Congresswoman Judy Chu, who is a longtime supporter, also provided the center with a Congressional certificate of commendation.

The Mothers’ Club Family Learning Center is a non-profit organization that prepares families living in isolation and poverty to succeed in school and in life through two-generation learning programs. To fulfill their mission. The Mothers Club provide free social services and educational programs to low-income, at-risk families with children ages 0-5.

In all programs, parents and children are on-site, engaged in their own comprehensive curricula. The Club currently serves 100 parents and 123 children each year.
