The Battery has moved from its South Pasadena location to the corner of Colorado Boulevard and Los Robles Avenue. This eclectic bookstore and performance space plans to focus on arts-related books, rare books and literature. This used bookstore is the latest addition to Pasadena’s already bustling literature scene.

“The ambiance I create is a bohemian atmosphere – I try to introduce [people] to know things to read or listen to,” said, co-owner, Richard West. He hopes to bring people together and share ideas.

He anticipates people browsing the shelves after an evening in Old Pasadena. The store is filled with books, CDs and records and there’s almost always something playing on the record player. Except everything from The Sugarhill Gang to Beethoven.

“I just need music around me at all times – information and music,” said West. As a musician and music lover, he plans to host concerts in the store with an emphasis on experimental jazz and local musicians. The first concert will be improv jazz by Daniel Corral.

“What we need stores for is to discover things we don’t already know,” he said.

The Battery is located at 26 South Los Robles Avenue. Call (626) 376-9913 or visit www.batterybooks.com.
