A homeless man who was cursing and yelling while walking in heavy rush hour traffic at South Lake Avenue and Del Mar Boulevard Monday night about 6 p.m. injured two Pasadena police officers as they took him into custody.
Arriving officers corralled the man, who was attempting to evade them.
“When the officers took him into custody they had to pull him down to the ground,” said Pasadena Police Lt. Kelly Evans. “One officer and the suspect suffered minor abrasions, the other officer received a laceration to his chin that required stitches.”
The more seriously injured officer probably received his injuries from striking an object or the asphalt during the struggle, Evans said. The suspect was not armed with any weapons.
Officers believed the suspect possibility was under the influence of drugs, Evans said.
Taken into custody was Michael Izon, an Asian man, 31 years of age, who is reportedly homeless.
