Pasadena-based Tribe Lacrosse Names Two Stand Out Additions to Coaching Ranks

Tribe Lacrosse based in Pasadena announced two notable additions to their youth coaching ranks in Brett Tietjen and Mike Gvozden.

Coach Tietjen will lead the U13 Stars team while Coach Gvozden will take the reins of the U15 Stars team for the 2016 SCLA spring season. Brett Tietjen will also assume the added responsibility as Director of Coaching for Tribe.

Brett Tietgen graduated from Garden City High School in 1998, winning the New York State Championship in 1997. The 1997 team was undefeated and ranked #4 nationally. The 1998 team won the Nassau County Championship. Brett earned All-County honors as a midfielder his senior year, as well as the Nolan Award for most dedicated lacrosse player on the team. Brett went on to play at UMass being one of three freshmen to play in every game. He finished out his career at Hofstra earning a Bachelors in Business Administration in 2002.

Tietgen was the assistant coach at New York Maritime for three years (2003 -2005) before returning to school to earn his Masters in Communication Arts from NYIT. Since relocating to California, Tietjen was Head Coach at USC and also has worked with many Youth and High School programs including US Lacrosse, Starz, Adrenaline, and Silverfin. Brett is currently the assistant coach at Loyola HS and Director of the LA Cobras club team.

Gvozden was named Head of Lacrosse Operations and Head Coach of Varsity Lacrosse at Viewpoint School in August 2015. Mike was a two-time High School All-American at Severna Park High School in Millersville, Maryland before becoming the starting goalie for Johns Hopkins University. At Johns Hopkins, Gvozden was on the NCAA National Championship team in 2007 and the NCAA National Championship Runner-Up team in 2008.

Tribe offers lacrosse play for Boys and Girls 8-18 in the San Gabriel Valley. The program competes in the SCLA for youth ball and the PLL for High School. Players can register at www.tribelacrosse.org.
