Pasadena City College Professor Hugo Schwyzer was arrested Friday for allegedly driving under the influence after he reportedly caused a car crash which injured a young woman in North California’s San Benito County.
Police charged Schwyzer with felony driving under the influence with special circumstances of causing injury to another person, Sgt. Brian Lepore of the San Benito County Sheriffâs Department told the Pasadena Star-News.
The professor was able to bail and is set for court appearance in San Benito County court on November 5, the newspaper reported.
The Star-News reported that Schwyzer said in his blog on Monday that he was “under the influence of 6 milligrams of Klonopinâ and that while driving with his mother, he hit a young woman who sustained injuries and was airlifted from the scene. That post has since been removed.
Last month, Schwyzer announced in his blog that will leave indefinitely his two-decade-old teaching career. He also said he is struggling with a mental illness and has been hospitalized five times this summer.
Schwyzer was scrutinized after he admitted in his blog in early September that he was having sexual relationships with his students. College officials immediately released a statement stating Schwyzer may face termination for violating the schoolâs policy.
Schwyzer also made news for attempted suicide and alleged extramarital affairs. He became well-known when reports were published about his Humanities 3 class in PCC called âNavigating Pornography.â
