Pasadena Firefighter/Paramedic Jodi Slicker Pays Tribute to Fallen Firefighters

Pasadena Firefighter/Paramedic Jodi Slicker proudly completed 90 flights of stairs on September 10, 2016 to mark the 15th anniversary commemoration of 9/11/01.

Firefighters, Police Officers, Military Personnel, and Civilians joined together in a spirit of remembrance and courage to honor the memories of those lost 15 years ago. Teams and individuals climbed 110 flights of stairs, the same number as in the twin towers, wearing the name of a fallen Emergency Responder whose life was lost on that day.

“We climbed in memory, and to honor each of the fallen 343 FDNY, 23 NYPD, and 37 Port Authority heroes, and to raise awareness of the sacrifices made by Firefighters everywhere” Slicker said.

The San Diego 911 Memorial Stair Climb sells out at 1,200 participants. Each climber selects one of the 403 first responders who died on 9/11 to climb in honor of. Each climber carries one of their head shots during the competition.

Slicker climbed a total of 90 flights of stairs in full firefighting gear and breathing apparatus (weighing approximately 60 lbs.), averaging 9:30 mins every 30 flights. Slicker and 5-5-5 Fitness who she is also affiliated with were honored to be asked to help move their World Trade Center Steel memorial for it to be displayed.

Slicker climbed in honor of Lieutenant Philp S. Petti with the Fire Department of New York who was 43 years old at the time of his death. While growing up in Brooklyn‚ Petti dreamed of being a firefighter. After trying a variety of other jobs‚ he joined the FDNY‚ and‚ for 18 years‚ lived his dream. He enjoyed every part of the job‚ particularly treasuring the friendships he made in the firehouse. Petti was also a music fan and an athlete – he played nearly every team sport‚ coached his children’s soccer and baseball teams‚ and rooted fiercely for the Giants‚ Mets‚ and Rangers.
