Pasadena Rock Club Finds Gold

Pasadena Lapidary Society announced that it has won the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies’ (AFMS) first place Gold Award for their exceptional yearbook showcasing club activities and community involvement. These items were taken into consideration by AFMS committee chair Regina Kapta, All American Club Awards, and other American Federation judges while tallying up points from entries coast to coast.

“It was obvious that a tremendous amount of time and effort went into designing and highlighting the numerous activities of the club and their yearbook really stood out,” said Kapta.

Pasadena Lapidary Society (PLS) has diverse and active members who consistently promote their hobby by hosting an annual gem and mineral show and running numerous rock collecting field trips throughout the year.

Club members receive a monthly newsletter that is both informative and entertaining. Monthly meetings feature presentations related to gems, minerals and earth science and are held at the Pasadena Main Library on the 3rd Tuesday and workshops are held on the 2nd Sunday of every month. The workshop boasts multiple polishing machines and various rock cutting saws that enable members to shape and finish their found specimens.

The club has an active Junior Rockhound program that encourages children to explore, collect and examine diverse and interesting geological formations.

The Pasadena Lapidary Society serves to educate its members and the community in mineralogy, earth sciences and training in the lapidary and jewelry arts – while promoting sound mineral resource stewardship based on environmental awareness and ethical behavior. The Society fulfills its mission year-round with a variety of activities, including field trips, lapidary workshops, outreach presentations, public mineral displays, an annual club show and monthly informational meetings open to the public.
