The number of confirmed cases of Pasadena residents infected by the Coronavirus has doubled, according to a statement by Pasadena Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian.

According to Derderian, the city’s Public Health Department confirmed three additional Pasadena residents are infected with the COVID-19 virus.

“These cases are likely due to community transmission,” a statement said on Monday afternoon. “Only one case has been hospitalized.”

It is not known if the cases are related to any previous positive tests. City officials said that due to the greater availability of testing the number of local cases is likely to continue to rise.

City officials said they would not provide additional information due to patient confidentiality.

There are 538 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in Los Angeles County. Eight people have died from the virus.

Altadena and South Pasadena also have three cases. Arcadia has two. In total 14 people in Pasadena and nearby communities have been infected with the virus.

Pasadena has its own health department. Altadena, South Pasadena and Arcadia are under the jurisdiction of the county health department.

“PPHD is following up directly with those who have had close contact with this individual and may be at risk for COVID-19 infection,” the release reads. “Close contacts are monitored for signs and symptoms of illness and are quarantined.”

Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said she was concerned about the number of beds in LA County this past weekend. The county only has 200 available beds.

On March 19, the Safer at Home Order was issued to slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect the Pasadena community. Individuals can take everyday actions to protect the community and preserve local healthcare resources including:

• Do not have non-essential gatherings with anyone outside of your immediate family (living with you); essential gatherings include medical visits and purchasing food;

• If you are sick, isolate yourself from others in your home and call your doctor to determine what care you need;

• If available, consider using telemedicine to speak with a healthcare provider, rather than visiting the emergency room or urgent care;

• Stay at least 6 feet away from other people when on essential outings such as grocery shopping or riding public transit to an essential job;

• Continue strict personal hand hygiene and cleaning of surfaces; and

• If you have recently returned from an area with ongoing COVID-19 infections, follow public health guidance and monitor your health. Call your healthcare providers and inform them about your travel history if you need care.
