A big rig lost control while driving on the rain-slicked road through the tunnel transition from the 210 Freeway onto the eastbound 134 Freeway around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday, leading to three separate accidents and a SigAlert which remains in effect (for current status, click here).
This was the second morning in a row that a SigAlert was issued in Pasadena due to a truck accident.
Three big rigs and one automobile ultimately were involved in the chain-reaction collisions, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The first truck lost control, struck the center divider, hit a dirt embankment and jackknifed, CHP Sgt. Barry Jones told KTLA News.
The driver attempted to warn other motorists by putting out reflectors, but an oncoming car swerved too late and crashed.
Next a second big rig slammed on its brakes to avoid hitting the wreck and was rear-ended by a third truck, Jones said.
A SigAlert was issued around 2:45 a.m., according to the CHP.
Two people were transported with injuries to a local hospital, authorities said.
