Slater’s 50/50 Makes Great Burgers Even Greater With Bacon

Everybody loves burgers. Everybody loves bacon too. Adding bacon strips on a patty is great, but you know what’s even better? Adding bacon to the patty mix itself.

Using that formula, Slater’s 50/50 creates burgers that are 50% ground beef, 50% ground bacon and 100% amazing. “We offer gourmet burgers, a Design It menu that allows guests to customize their own meal, and salads and delicious desserts,” says Scott Slater, owner of Slater’s 50/50.

Slater’s 50/50 has several different protein options, 4 breads, 12 cheeses, 30 toppings, and 20 sauces, so you can check off and make whatever burger or sandwich you are in the mood for.

“Our guests can create a different dining experience each and every time they visit. There are about a million combinations,” says Slater.

But for all the combination burgers you can make, the central theme of Slater’s 50/50 is bacon. A visit to the restaurant will have bacon lovers will feel like kids in a candy store. “Bacon is meat candy,” says Slater.

“We try to incorporate bacon in new ways. We have a bacon milk shake, we have bacon old-fashion cocktail, bacon macaroni and cheese, the B’ B’ B’ Bacon burger; we do all things with bacon, adds Slater.

Aside from the amazing food, Slater’s also has one of the finest bars in Pasadena. “All of our bartenders and servers are certified beer servers that know all about beer, all educated on beer,” Slater explains.

A Cicerone, for those who are unaware, are the beer world’s version of a wine Sommelier. Cicerones are credentialed experts at serving beer and pairing it with food.

Slater’s 50/50 is dedicated to serving its customers the best, which is natural, given Slater’s 16 years in the restaurant business.

“I’m 31 years old but I’ve been in the restaurant industry since I was 15. I was a dishwasher. I grew up in La Crescenta which is right next door, so Pasadena is my old stomping ground. I was working in restaurants all over there when I was growing up,” says Slater.

Today, Slater has five restaurants with the first one in Anaheim opened in 2009. The Pasadena branch was Slater’s fourth that opened just last November. The sixth location will open this summer in Rancho Cucamonga near Victoria Gardens.

Slater adds, “We now have 750 employees and an experienced and innovative executive team. Each restaurant has seven managers and they all run very smooth and guest-driven operations.”

Six restaurants in four years. From a company of one, to an army of 750 employees.

Not bad for a kid bussing tables.

Slater’s 50/50 Burgers by Design is located at 61 North Raymond Ave. To find out more about Slater’s, visit slaters5050.com and find them on Facebook, Instagram and Yelp
