Letter to the Editor: Madison Elementary School Teacher Writes to Support Principal Ruelas

I would like to bring truth to all this chaos that the majority of the Madison teachers have created.

The teachers who went to the Board Meeting on Thursday last week, are upset because they have been given expectations from their Principal. Madison is a low performing school, and has been for years. One main reason is that the teachers have let this happen. They do not care about the students’ well-being.

I can assure you the Principal has followed the Union Contract when stating his expectations of all his teachers.

The teachers have riled up parents who do not understand that this change is good and that it will only benefit their child in the long run. Some parents are complaining about the children not being able to use the Restroom. That is a flat out lie. Restrooms are to be used during Recess Breaks, unless it is an emergency. Teachers were told this at our meeting prior to the beginning of classes. It was stated that we do not want accidents in the classroom ‘so use your judgment when a child asks to use the restroom in the middle of your lesson’.

The issue about children not eating, this is also a lie. The students are showing up late in the morning and do not have time to eat and during lunch, they are playing and talking but, the teachers instead of reminding them to eat so they can go play , have told parents that food is being taken out of their mouths.

If you were to really investigate the teachers that have started all this nonsense, they have a lot of questions to answer about their professionalism. They do not care about students, they care about getting a paycheck each month without lifting one finger to help the customers who really matter, the kids.

They talk about a toxic and hostile environment at work. They are the ones who have created it. They are also telling the students about what they are doing. This is not fair to the children because these kids will not feel safe in their school.

The whole thing about the boycott is being incited by a teacher. She is personally calling parents. Who does this affect? The student. If the student does not show up to school, they are getting marked absent and will become Truant. Another person who is helping this teacher is a previous Principal who retired a few years ago from the district.

Once again, who is important here? The children should be our focus.

Maria Valdez says she is a teacher at Madison Elementary School who also worked with Mr. Ruelas at his previous school site, Roosevelt Elementary School.
