Los Angeles Sheriff’s deputies said a 25-year-old Pasadena resident was shot and killed early Friday after he went out of his house to investigate what was causing some noise.

The victim was identified by CBS as Joe McMahon, who worked as an associate producer for the reality TV show “Deadliest Catch.” McMahon lived at the 3600 block of Yorkshire Road in Pasadena. Deputies responded to a call at about 2:20 a.m. Friday and found McMahon lying on the street with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

McMahon’s family members said he had gone outside after hearing some noise minutes before he was shot. Neighbors said they heard about six to eight gun shots before a small car was seen driving off from near the scene. Authorities are still investigating whether the car’s occupants had anything to do with the shooting.

Deputies said they found McMahon lying in front of the driveway of the house just next to his.

Authorities said they do not have any leads on a possible suspect or motive at this time.

“Deadliest Catch” started airing in 2005 on the Discovery Channel and is currently shown in over 200 countries. The reality show documents real-life events on board fishing vessels in the Bering Sea during the Alaskan king crab, snow crab and bairdi crab fishing seasons.
