An unidentified 38-year-old woman who was about to jump off an overpass fence in an apparent suicide attempt was pulled back into safety by a police officer Sunday.

A person called the department at 11:15 a.m. and reported a family member who might jump from a bridge to kill herself, Pasadena Police Lt. Jason Clawson told the Pasadena Star-News.

The caller told the police the name of the victim, her description and that she was last seen along Orange Grove Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue, Clawson told the newspaper.

Police searched the bridges and overpasses along the area and saw a woman scaling a fence on the Orange Grove Boulevard overpass above the 210 Freeway, the Star-News reported.

The woman began to climb the fencing as she saw Officer Elgin Lee of the Homeless Outreach-Psychiatric Evaluation Team approach her. Her upper body was already above the top of the fence when Lee was able to grab her by the feet and pull her back to safety, Clawson told the newspaper.

The victim was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric test, Clawson told the newspaper.
