Chandler Hosts Donor Event at the Carnegie Observatories

Chandler School hosted donors to its Annual Fund at the Head of School Circle level at a special event last Saturday. At the Carnegie Observatories, nearly 200 attendees enjoyed lunch, a facility tour, and a talk from Director Dr. John Mulcahey about recent astronomical discoveries and the Giant Magellan telescope, which is being designed on-site.

Children explored the skies through a solar telescope, toured the working lab, saw an interactive super-nova demonstration, discerned the elements with special spectrometer glasses and viewed hot and cold surfaces through an infrared camera.

Through a community partnership, Chandler students this year have enjoyed presentations from several of the Carnegie Observatories scientists in their classrooms. The school aims to forge partnerships with educational and nonprofit organizations to enrich and extend learning possibilities for the Chandler community.
