Suzanna Guzman Mesmerizes Barnhart School Students
Bravo! These are faces of kids engaged, well actually mesmerized by music…would you believe Opera? Students learned to breathe, stand, and sing like an opera star and that is because we were honored by the presence of Suzanna Guzmán! Her profound passion for music and education filled the entire sanctuary with her positive energy!
Suzanna Guzmán is an American mezzo-soprano and television host. Currently she is the host of KCET’s weekly series Open Call. As a singer she has performed with international and American Opera companies as a principal artist: La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera, La Favorite in Montpellier, France, and Goya at the Spoleto Festival in Italy. Known for her portrayal of the title role in Carmen for Houston Grand Opera’s multimedia production, a role she has performed more than 200 times.
Located in Arcadia, California, Barnhart offers a private K-8 education. Distinguishing programs of Barnhart include Spanish at all grade levels, daily physical education, the Virtues Project™ character development program, the creative writing program (Lucy Calkins’ Writer’s Workshop), a choral group, and an on-site harvest garden. The school has an early literacy emphasis, a 1:1 technology ratio and an average 12:1 student-teacher ratio. Barnhart is accredited by the California Association of Independent Schools and Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Established in 1959 by Dr. Ethel Barnhart, Barnhart is affiliated with the non- denominational Santa Anita Church.
