115-Year-Old Local REALTOR’S Association Launches Newest Charitable Endeavor

Pasadena-Foothills Association of REALTORS® launched PFAR in Action (PFARIA), a community-focused program that offers support and resources to human service-based non-profits in Pasadena.

The program’s Advisory Board is comprised of six PFAR members (Real Estate Agents/REALTORS® and Affiliates) who support the Pasadena-Foothills communities through donating, fundraising and volunteering.

April 29, 2022, PFARIA board members donated 250 hygiene kits to Union Station Homeless Services of Pasadena to aid in providing toiletries and other personal items to poverty-stricken people.

“Realtors have a great sense of community and service. Seeing all the items collected through the many offices that participated in the hygiene kit drive gave me an overwhelming sense of hope and pride that we are able to mobilize and help those in need,” declares Kay Tolentino, PFAR 2023 President-Elect and PFARIA Advisory Board Member.

PFARIA will be conducting a few more events and initiatives prior to the close of 2022. These projects will allow the charity-focused program to support other local non-profit organizations and assist in extending their reach by way of partnerships and community service.

“I’m so proud of our team of real estate agents and affiliates who [are] able to make a small dent in…systemic [issues]. This is our first step. I believe it is our civic duty to embody the change we wish to see in the world and this is how we will do it,” Chair of PFARIA, Kimberly Kirven expresses.

PFAR was founded as the Pasadena Realty Board in 1907 and incorporated in 1922 with the purpose of promoting good fellowship and fair dealing within the industry. Over the years, our objectives have expanded to provide members with the tools, education and opportunities to succeed; to adhere to and enforce the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS®; to preserve and promote real property rights; and to serve as a constructive force to empower our communities.

PFAR in Action is the community service arm of PFAR. Its sole purpose is community outreach, by way of planning events like hygiene, backpack, food and clothing drives that serve people in need. Items collected are then distributed to organizations like Union Station Homeless Services of Pasadena to ensure PFARIA’s mission of partnerships and community service.

Upcoming events are as follows:

  • Backpack Drive (collecting school supplies throughout July for backpack drive in August).
  • Golf Tournament at Brookside Golf Club (September).
  • Sock Drive (gathering and donating socks to destitute people (October)).

To participate, volunteer, or donate to any of the abovementioned events, contact PFAR’s Community Engagement Manager, Kanishia L. Jackson at 626.689.2937, or via email at pfaria@pfar.org.
