Officials added that224 patients were being treated for the virus at hospitals throughout L.A. County, with 29% of them being housed in intensive care units.

COVID-19 is almost exclusively spreading among unvaccinated residents, L.A. County Director of Public Health Barbara Ferrer said.

“While masking and distancing remain effective means for reducing transmission, the most powerful tool we have for keeping cases down and protecting ourselves and others are the COVID-19 vaccines,” Ferrer said.
