Police found five young children huddled together on a cold Pasadena street corner Friday night with no parents in sight before encountering the parents in an incident that led to their arrests.
Officers responded to the area near Altadena Drive at Corson Street about 8:30 p.m. after worried callers notified police.
The children, numbering an infant girl and four boys aged 1,3,7, and 9, were standing in the open with the baby in a stroller and the young boy in the arms of an older brother, according to Pasadena Police Lt. Anthony Burgess.
The parents approached the officers and said they were from Texas and were looking for shelter, Burgess said.
But as they spoke with officers, Burgess said the father became confrontational.
When the officers attempted to detain him, he resisted. After he was arrested, officers found he was carrying a nine-millimeter handgun, according to Burgess.
Both the mother and the father were booked for child endangerment. The father was also booked for possession of an illegal gun, Burgess said.
The children were placed with the Los Angeles County Department Children and Family Services, he said.
Burgess said the father was named Andre Redus McDaniel, 30, and the mother Shyqua Nutall, both Texas residents.
McDaniel is being held on a $100,000 bond, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s online booking records.

This is not right….The family should had been helped. Instead of helping the entire family source contacts for accommodation, it escalated to separation of the family. California to an extent be it circumstances like this has a bizzare mindset as such when nothing is of an issue, it becomes one….And when it is time to be of an issue, it is not addressed. I pray that the parents are assisted that the police and court drop this case and that they can be reunited. I am actually crying over this. ?
