Two high school seniors from Pasadena will receive a $5,000 and a $2,500 scholarship for college expenses, in this years Pasadena Water and Power Educational Scholarship round.
PWP started the scholarship program in 2014 as part of the departments commitment to empowering and investing in Pasadenas youth, PWP General Manager Gurcharan Bawa said in an announcement. Since that year, PWP has awarded a total of $35,000 to Pasadena high school students who were selected for the program.
The scholarship is open to students from both public and private high schools in Pasadena. The $5,000 scholarship goes to the first placer in the selection process, and the $2,500 goes to the second placer.
To apply for the 2019 scholarship, students must submit a filled application form which can be downloaded from the PWP webpage, academic transcripts, and an essay that introduces a new conservation-focused invention or technology that the Pasadena community could embrace.
Applicants must reside within PWPs service territory and must provide proof of acceptance for the 2019-2020 school year at an accredited post-secondary institution.
The deadline for submission is April 22, PWP said.
Last years scholarship top-placer was Alejandro Moreno from Marshall Fundamental Secondary School. In his essay, Moreno presented the idea of Plasma Gasification and highlighted the success of using Plasma Gasification in Sweden.
