Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride, Other Transit Agencies Offer Free Rides on Election Day to Boost Voter Turnout

Pasadena Transit, Dial-A-Ride and transit agencies in Los Angeles County will offer free rides during election day on June 7, to help the public get to voting centers, the Department of Transportation announced this week.

Also joining Pasadena in its initiative are Metro, LADOT, and Long Beach Transit.

The majority of polling places and dropboxes for mail in ballots in Pasadena fall within 1?4 mile of a Pasadena Transit bus stop.

According to DOT, the public will be notified about the free service via interior posters and audio announcements on buses as well as information posted online and through social media.

The free fare initiative is aimed at increasing voter turnout in the upcoming polls.

In the June 2020 primary election, Pasadena saw a voter turnout of just 50%.

DOT said the lack of reliable transportation to voting sites can often serve as a deterrent to voter turnout.

“Pasadena Transit is proud to do its part in providing convenient, accessible and free transportation to voting polls on June 7,” said the DOT.
