Deadline For 710 Stub Working Group Applications This Friday

The deadline is nearing if you want to serve on the 710 stub working group.

Applications are due on Feb. 17.

The group will address future uses of the recently acquired former 710 freeway right-of-way “stub” property in West Pasadena.

More than 50 years ago, Caltrans seized hundreds of homes in southwestern Pasadena, the city of South Pasadena and the Los Angeles neighborhood of El Sereno through eminent domain in what ultimately became a failed effort to connect the Long Beach 710 and Foothill 210 freeways.

After decades of uncertainty regarding the future of the 710 extensionCaltrans voted unanimously to approve relinquishment of the 710 stub back to Pasadena in June.

The decision marked a historic moment in the City’s long-sought goal of re-envisioning and rebuilding what was once an integral and vibrant part of Pasadena.

The working group will consist of 13 members, including one appointed by each council member, two appointed by Mayor Victor Gordo, and four appointed by the City Council. At least two members must be descendants of a resident or community member displaced by the proposed 710 Freeway expansion, with consideration given to displacement due to the 210 Freeway.
