Employees and shoppers were evacuated from Vallarta Market in Pasadena on Thursday afternoon after a possible freon leak, according to police.
An alarm went off that an unknown harmful substance was leaking from refrigeration equipment inside the market at about 12:18 p.m. Thursday triggering the emergency response, according to city officials.
The Pasadena Fire Dept. responded to the incident as well as was hazmat crews from Burbank, Glendale, Vernon, and South Pasadena.
There were no injuries reported.
The market, located at 655 North Fair Oaks Ave., was closed for about two hours as a result of the incident and delayed traffic on nearby streets as they filled with emergency vehicles.
The eastbound lanes of Orange Grove Boulevard between Fair Oaks and Lincoln avenues were closed, Lt. Pete Hettema said.
