Housed in the old luggage room of the Pasadena Train Station is a new wonder, an adult pizza joint. The large barn-like structure used to be the room where the trains would deposit all the luggage for pick up by their owners. The bare beams are still in evidence as are the high doors where the luggage would be dropped through.
A very nice bar sits in the center of the room with Crystal Chandeliers lending a little class to a very rustic room. The pizza oven scents the room with Italian wood and music plays a bit too loudly in the background.
The menu includes a number of delicious cocktails for the adults among us. My favorite was the Bijou, a mixture of Absolut Grapefruit Vodka and sparkling wine. A variety of beers “online” and wines are also offered. There is also pure sugar cane Coca-Cola, Orangina and Old Fashioned Root Beer to drink.
The pizzas are thin crust made with a seventy year old sour dough starter and baked in that screaming hot pizza oven. Pizzas like The Gladiator: Todd’s spicy Italian sausage, Salumeria Biellese Pepperoni and red sauce and Mushroom Party: Duxelle of crimini, button and oyster mushrooms with sweet onion and fennel grace the menu. Forget about the Hawaiian pizza and Barbecue chicken pizza, The Luggage Room’s pizza are creative and different with ingredients like clams, rapini, avocado and spicy red Fresno chilies.
There is also a unusual assortment of appetizers which include cold marinated chicken livers, house olive oil poached tuna and two of my favorites baby arichockes with aioli and LGO’s chopped salad. One pizza along with the chopped salad is more than enough for two adults.
If you want your pizza to go, they do that too. The Luggage Room Pizzeria is located at 260 S. Raymond Avenue, Pasadena. They are open Monday – Sunday, 5:00 p.m. – midnight. For more information call (626) 356-4444. Allllll Aboard!
