Police and fire officials presented a new guitar Thursday to a man who lost his in an armed robbery in Pasadena three weeks ago after it was donated by an anonymous good Samaritan, authorities said.
Members of the Pasadena Outreach Response Team, or PORT, and Homeless Outreach and Psychiatric Evaluation, or HOPE, team handed over the Fender acoustic guitar to the victim “thanks to an anonymous donation delivered to the police department,” Pasadena police officials said in a written statement. “He was also offered housing and health services.”
The robbery occurred about 1 p.m. on Aug. 7 as the victim was sitting with his guitar at a bus bench in the 800 block of North Lake Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Jesse Carrillo said at the time.
Another man approached the victim and asked to play his guitar, according to the lieutenant. The victim refused, and the other man displayed a handgun tucked into his waistband and demanded the guitar before fleeing south along Lake Ave.
Police described the robber as a Black man in his late-20s to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall, wearing a black shirt and black pants.
The act of generosity was the second time this month that a Pasadenan decided to step in to replace an item stolen by robbers.
Police presented an expensive leaf blower to father-and-son gardeners on Aug. 5 after a local resident learned from local media coverage that they had lost their own in a robbery while working at a Pasadena property. Again, the item was provided to police to distribute to the victim by an anonymous donor.
Anyone with information on either crime can reach the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4241. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
