A fire of unknown origin damaged about $30,000 worth of property at a two story apartment on South Craig Avenue just south of Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena Wednesday night, according to Pasadena Fire Department reports.

Fire Department spokesperson Lisa Derderian said the fire units were dispatched at about 7:38 p.m. after the department received a call about the fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw light smoke coming from a subterranean garage at the residence, and were informed about an elderly occupant in a bedroom on the second floor.

Firefighters saw the fire was confined to a small laundry room in the garage and did not extend into the first or second floors. Units reported the fire was under control by 8:07 p.m., about 24 minutes after the arrival of the first responding team.

Elements from the San Marino Fire Department also helped put out the fire, and Pasadena Police units assisted in vehicle and pedestrian traffic control. The cause of the fire is still being investigated
