The online registration for Summer Studio – arts classes for all ages offered by Pasadena’s Armory Center for the Arts – will open Wednesday, March 23, 2016, starting at 10 a.m.

An announcement posted on Armory Center’s website last week said nationally-recognized and award-winning art classes for children, teens, adults and families will be offered at the Summer Studio, which will run Monday through Saturday starting on June 27 until August 26. The sessions will be small classes taught by professional artists, and all ages and skills are welcome.

“The Armory is committed to hiring dedicated and professional artist and teachers with demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the developmental needs of individuals,” the announcement said. “It is our goal to provide a nurturing environment in which individuals are given the freedom to express themselves while receiving the necessary tools for creative growth.”

Classes for Summer Studio are grouped into ages 3 to 11, 12 to 14, 15 to 18 and adult classes.

The younger children take classes that introduce various materials, concepts, and techniques designed to challenge a child’s imagination and ability while providing opportunities for playful exploration.  Classes for older children are designed to enhance skills, broaden concepts and provide an expanded, creative experience. Various materials and historical art concepts are used to achieve greater technical ability and broaden knowledge.

The cost for Summer Studio for ages 3 to 11 is $110 for five class meetings. Armory Center members receive 10 percent off on all classes.

For middle school students, classes are designed to provide in-depth experiences through sequential classes. Extended class time allows students and instructors to engage in more ambitious explorations of concepts, creative expression, historical and cultural context, connections, relations, applications and materials. Limited to twelve students, middle school classes allow for more individualized instruction.

The average tuition fee for the 12 to 14 age group is $200.

For ages 15 to 18, Art High at the Armory offers various opportunities to gain valuable art experiences. Instruction concentrates on visual arts and media arts. Students work with professional artists in various disciplines who are experts in bringing their experience into the classroom. Extended class time allows students and instructors to engage in more ambitious explorations of concepts, creative expression, historical and cultural context, connections and relations, applications, and materials. Classes have limited spaces to allow for more individualized instruction.

Armory Art High studio classes are tuition-free, although a $50 non-refundable registration fee is required. Programming is underwritten, in part, by gifts from individual donors and by government, corporate, and private foundation grant awards.

Classes for adults offer them a creative environment outlet for their artistic needs and the opportunity to develop new skills and find hidden talents. Beginning and advanced students are given individualized instruction to achieve their goals. Most importantly, adults will have an outlet for your personal artistic expression.

Adult Summer Studio classes cost from $225 to $300. Students between ages 16 and 18 can also register for adult classes, although they have to be approved by the Studio Director. Enrollment is on a first come first served basis and is limited to one class per student per session.

The Armory Center encourages all students to register as Armory members, which entitles them to 10 percent discounts on tuition fees.
