In a lean year for Pasadena City College track and field, sophomore women’s distance runner Edna Bailon came up with the best showing for the Lancers as she placed second in the 10,000 meters at the South Coast Conference Championships held April 26 and 29 at Long Beach City College.

Bailon’s time of 41 minutes, 33.59 seconds is 19th fastest in the state. Frosh teammate Franceska Millanponce was fifth in the event at 42:42.87. The runners scored 14 of the team’s 23 points in the race alone as PCC placed fifth overall as a team out of six scoring squads. Cerritos College won the SCC team women’s title.

Millanponce took fifth in the 5,000 meters at 19:40.98 and Bailon was seventh (19:49.43).

The PCC men’s team struggled, scoring just 17 team points and tying for fifth with Long Beach City College. Mt. San Antonio ran away with the conference title with 420 points.

The top finish by a Lancer was turned in by sophomore transfer Stewart McKenzie in the triple jump as he placed fourth at 14.18 meters. The team’s 4×100 relay squad was fourth at 45.36 seconds.
