The body of a man was discovered on a transition road along the 210 Freeway in Pasadena early Tuesday, prompting authorities to issue a Sig Alert while they conducted an investigation, officials said.

The body was discovered just before 5:30 a.m. along the transition road connecting the westbound 210 Freeway to the westbound 134 Freeway, beneath the Fair Oaks Avenue overcrossing, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to a report of a pedestrian lying on the right shoulder of the roadway, Officer R. Pope of the CHP’s Altadena-area office said in a written statement.

“Pasadena City Fire Department personnel and Altadena CHP units responded to the scene and encountered a male adult laying face down on the right shoulder,” Pope said. “He was declared deceased on scene by [PFD] paramedics.”

The man was estimated to be about 60 years old, officials said. His identity was not known.

“The cause of death is under investigation,” Pope said.

No further details were available Tuesday afternoon.

A Sig Alert was issued for the transition road until about 8 a.m. as authorities investigated the scene, according to the CHP.

Anyone with information can reach the CHP’s Altadena-area office at (626) 296-8100.
