Community Health Alliance of Pasadena (ChapCare) has been awarded $36,356 by The Patron Saints Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation’s generous grant award will help ChapCare purchase and implement digital x-ray equipment and software at its Fair Oaks health center.

“The Patron Saints Foundation is proud to make this important grant to ChapCare,” said Kathleen T. Shannon, Executive Director of The Patron Saints Foundation. “The purchase and implementation of digital x-ray equipment and software targets an identified need in the communities that ChapCare serves, to reduce barriers to receiving high-quality x-ray services.”

Margaret B. Martinez, ChapCare’s Chief Executive Officer said, “ChapCare would like to express our deepest gratitude to The Patron Saints Foundation. The addition of digital x-ray services at our health centers will achieve increased access to this service for our patients, increased quality of care, and increased patient satisfaction due to enhanced x-ray services.”

ChapCare’s ability to provide digital x-ray services is critical to improve the short-term health of its patients. It will also help fulfill ChapCare’s goal to enhance its technology infrastructure as it moves toward 2014 and the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

About ChapCare

ChapCare was founded in 1995 by a committed group of community residents, city officials, and health care agencies to establish primary care health services for the low-income, uninsured residents in the Pasadena area. ChapCare began providing medical services in 1998 and dental services in 2001. Today, ChapCare is a network of HRSA-funded community health centers that has provided medical services to countless under-insured and uninsured residents of the San Gabriel Valley for almost 15 years. The organization operates 3 health centers in the Pasadena area, and a mobile van in the El Monte region. ChapCare provides over 54,000 primary healthcare visits annually to over 15,000 patients. ChapCare will open a new health center in the City of South El Monte in February 2013.

About The Patron Saints Foundation

The Patron Saints Foundation evolved from the St. Luke Foundation which was a public charity created in 1979 to support the not-for-profit St. Luke Hospital located in Pasadena, California. In 1985, St. Luke Hospital was sold and became a for-profit hospital. At that time, the Articles of Incorporation were restated to allow the Patron Saints Foundation to take control of the assets of the St. Luke Foundation. These assets have been invested and now fund the activities of The Patron Saints Foundation.

The Patron Saints Foundation is a private foundation that provides grants to public charities that improve the health of individuals residing in the West San Gabriel Valley through health care programs that are consistent with the moral and religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The Foundation provides approximately $500,000 in grants annually.
