Voter turnout wasn’t so low after all in the March 5 election.

City Clerk Mark Jomsky said on Monday that 40.6% of local voters cast ballots in the election.

The City turnout was higher than the voter turnout in Los Angeles County where only about 30% of the voters cast ballots.

On Monday, the City Council adopted a resolution accepting the March 5 elections.

Voters chose their representatives in Districts 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6, which were up for election this year.

Justin Jones won the District 3 seat in a special election. The seat will be up for grabs again in two years.

In the other races, voters chose Tyron Hampton, Rick Cole, Justin Jones, Gene Masuda, and Steve Madison to represent them in the respective districts.

A total of 1,641,715 ballots were processed and counted with 28.90% of eligible voters casting ballots in Los Angeles County.

In local races, 32,625 people voted in the citywide mayoral contest. In District 2, 5,308 voters cast ballots. In District 3, 3,039 people voted.

In District 4, 5,953 voters cast ballots.

In other races, Tyron Hampton and Steve Madison ran unopposed in Districts 1 and 6.

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is scheduled to declare the election officially concluded on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

The new City Council will be sworn in in December.
