The Pasadena Unified School District announced its annual Women’s History Month assembly will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Marshall Fundamental Secondary School, 990 N. Allen Ave on March 23.

But this year’s event will feature a major keynote speaker.

Former First Lady and Democratic Presidential Nominee Hillary Rodham Clinton will deliver a personal pre-recorded keynote address. This event will also be live streamed by KLRN.

“It fills me with hope for the future that you’re taking time to study and celebrate the groundbreaking pioneers of the women’s liberation movement,” Clinton said in the pre-recorded address.

PUSD Superintendent Dr. Brian McDonald, Congressmember Judy Chu, Pasadena City Councilmember Felicia Williams, Altadena Town Councilmember Dr. Sandra E. Thomas and the PUSD Chief Academic Officer Dr. Elizabeth Blanco are scheduled to speak at the event.

“As the new principal at Marshall Fundamental, and to commemorate our fifth anniversary, I, along with Board Member Lee, wanted to expand our event to include 6-12 students in PUSD,” said Marshall Principal Lori Touloumian. “Our goal is to have Women’s History and the Women’s Liberation movement be included at a broad scale in our curriculum. As stated by Hillary Rodham Clinton, Women’s History is American History. I am thrilled that our event will include the voice and work of so many more students, and am hopeful it will continue to grow.”

A video address by the female students of the International Islamic University, Islamabad will focus on women’s history and women’s rights globally.

PUSD School Board Trustee Jennifer Hall Lee said “For our five year anniversary it seemed fitting and appropriate to ask Hillary Rodham Clinton to address the PUSD.”

“When Principal Touloumian and I started this assembly we wanted to give recognition to the extraordinary achievements of the Women’s Liberation Movement. For too long this movement has been underrecognized. We’re changing that,” said Hall Lee.

There is street parking and the doors will open at 5:45 pm. Seating is first come first served. Assembly will be live streamed by KLRN https://www.pusd.us/whm2022
