Chicken noodle soup was the order of the day on Monday as the Pasadena Convention Center and its food and beverage provider Sodexo Live! prepared and delivered 1,500 servings of soup for local shelters and homeless services.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to partner with Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation on this initiative,” said Michael Ross, CEO of the Pasadena Center Operating Company. “It’s a wonderful way to be able to contribute to the local community.”

Led by Pasadena Convention Center’s Executive Chef Diego Feliciano, the “Big Soup Servathon” event is part of Sodexo’s Stop Hunger Foundation and its ongoing mission to stamp out hunger and address food insecurity, according to a press release from the Convention Center.

Councilmember Tyron Hampton lent a hand, pitching in to help make and ready the soup.

The soup giveaway is also a part of the Pasadena Convention Center and Sodexo Live!’s ongoing efforts to support the community. Previous initiatives include Union Station Homeless Services Thanksgiving Dinner in the Park, preparing and distributing 85,000 meals to those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic, and regularly donating surplus food.

The soup, prepared in the kitchens of the Convention Center, will be provided to Union Station Homeless Services, Church of the Nazarene, Impact Organization, Elizabeth House, Ronald McDonald House of Pasadena, Jesus es el Camino, the Walter Hoving Home in Pasadena, and the Salvation Army of San Gabriel Valley.

According to the press release, The Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation “empowers its employees around the world to join forces, engage their teams and fight hunger in their local communities, through service, skilled volunteerism, fundraising and activities that go beyond food aid.”

The foundation distributed over 4,100,000 meals during 2020.
