Local Democrats Celebrate 2020 Victories at Annual July 4 Fundraiser

Group honors memory of Anne Wolf, and salutes local members with “Democrat of the Year” awards

In a much better mood than last year, the Democrats of Pasadena Foothills packed a private home in Northwest Pasadena, as they celebrated their annual 4th of July Fundraiser with Congresswoman Judy Chu, Assemblymember Chris Holden, and State Senator Anthony Portantino in attendance.

Each of the electeds took time to chide the former president and his administration, and congratulate the Pasadena Democrats for their work in the November 2020 election victory by the Democrats.

“From the White House to the outhouse,” joked Portantino of former President Donald Trump.

“We had a president who was leading this country toward fascism,” said Chu, adding, “With your hard work, we now have a president and vice-president who really cares, and we kept the House and we took back the Senate!”

State Assembly Chris Holden recalled that Pasadena was once known as a Republican city, and thanked the local Democrats for working to change that.

“It took leadership and it took courage,” said Holden, who noted the large number of new members in attendance, and said that the group was “passing the baton to a new group of Democratic leaders in the community who are going to make a difference.”

The organization and elected officials also paid homage to former member Anne Wolf, who recently passed away, and honored Dr. Robert Nelson, Peggy Renner, and Dennis Recendez, with a “Democrat of the Year” Award.

  • Not the appropriate time for ridiculous comments on such a patriotic day as 4th of July. Demeaning others doesn’t make you any better. I’m ashamed of all those who instead of honoring our soldiers, martyrs, had nothing to energize us with but with ugly comments
