They’re at every football game in the fall, and at basketball games every winter. They perform at pep rallies, and they always cheer for the home team. But did you know that the Flintridge Prep Rebel Cheer and Dance team also participates in dance competitions?

Usually, the team competes against large public school teams with 50 or more members. The Rebel Dance team just finished its competition season. They participated in two Sharp dance competitions in back to back weekends and were very successful.

In both of the competitions, Prep competed against mostly public high schools with over 2,000 students, beating out Agoura, Pioneer Valley, El Monte, Carson, Glendale Hoover, Montebello, Arleta, Van Nuys, Temple City, Rosemead, Glendora, Patriot and Crescenta Valley in various competitions.

On Saturday, February 25th, the dance team went to Knott’s Berry Farm and placed first in each of their categories, Senior Lyrical, Senior Jazz, and Senior Pom.

The team was named State Champs in the Jazz category and the Lyrical routine was the highest-scoring routine of the competition. In addition, the girls took home a “Most Spirited” trophy.

On March 3, the team traveled to Arcadia High School, where they once again placed first in the Senior Lyrical and Senior Pom categories. They receive a second-place medal in the Senior Jazz category. They were named Divisional Champions in Lyrical and Pom and also won the “Showmanship” trophy.

Every member of the Cheer team and several other students and parents attended the event at Arcadia High School in support of the Dance team.

The Flintridge Prep Rebel Dance Team was consistently judged as being well-costumed, and routines were universally well executed and professional.

A school official said “It was a wonderful end to their season and a terrific send off for the Dance team seniors, Kimberly Ostiller, Mary Lazier, Monica Cho, Celine Ang, and Sarah Rademacher.” (Cho, Ang and Rademacher all celebrate four years on the Dance team).
