Two new members and an incumbent on Monday were sworn in to serve on the Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education, which chose the board’s new officers.
Tina Wu Fredericks and Jennifer Hall Lee were sworn in at an organizational meeting along with incumbent Boardmember Patrick Cahalan.
The new board named former board Vice President Scott Phelps board president, and Boardmember Elizabeth Pomeroy was named vice president.
The board also selected Boardmember Michelle Richardson Bailey to serve as clerk and Superintendent Brian McDonald was named board secretary.
Most schools in the district remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic and students continue to attend classes via computer distance learning.
On Monday, the Los Angeles Unified School District announced that all students would return to distance learning.
Some districts, including Pasadena, have reopened schools for some special education students.
Locally, a dozen private schools have received waivers that allow students in pre-K to second grade to attend. Those schools will remain open for in-person instruction.
