God’s Purpose for Your Business

Whenever most Christians think of serving the Lord, the normal ways in which we think that happen is if we become a pastor, missionary, evangelist, Sunday school teacher or on the worship team to name a few. These areas may or may not be a fit for you and many times, as business people, we feel like an outsider.

Sure we want to serve the Lord but those areas of service just don’t excite us. Don’t feel guilty about how you feel but rest assured, you’re not alone. There are many business people that feel the same way you do and believe it or not, you can serve the Lord just where He has placed you. In your business.

God has called you into business for a reason. No, it’s not just to make a lot of money so you can give to your church (although that is part of it) but to make an impact with your business. He does not use only the pastor of your church to reach people. He can use you in whatever you do, including in your business.

So how can God use your business? First of all a good business starts by fulfilling an unmet need with a product or service that is second to none. If executed properly, the business should be profitable and positively impact the community around.

Let’s think about what a successful business can do for the community:

* Allow you to give more to your church or other charitable cause
* Create jobs
* Have positive influence within city government
* Increased tax revenue for the city
* Be a mentor to other business owners, school kids, even customers
* Positively impact customers, vendors, employees and their families

Whenever a business is successful it creates a platform in which people will listen to what the owner has to say. Whether you outwardly evangelize or if you just impact people with your actions, your business is your ministry and can reach people in a way that a pastor cannot.

So, ask God what is the purpose for your business. Once you understand what that is, your business will take on a whole new meaning.
