Goodwill Reopens Two Pasadena Stores With Some Changes

Published on Tuesday, June 9, 2020 | 1:47 pm

Non-profit and social enterprise Goodwill Southern California has reopened two of its three stores in Pasadena, closed since March 18 due to the coronavirus emergency.

The non-profit is gradually reopening 21 locations out of 80 total but will continue to observe measures to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, including daily health checks of all employees, cleaning of stores multiple times a day, shopping cart sanitization, requiring face masks among all employees and customers, installing Plexiglass guards at registers, and temporary closure of fitting rooms and restrooms.

Shoppers will also see signage to increase social distancing, limiting the number of customers in stores, and enforcing one-way aisles.

Customers will also use touchless payment options such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, Goodwill said.

Goodwill also reminds in-store customers that hours are changing so staff can clean and restock shelves. The new hours are Monday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Goodwill stores also introduced a contactless donation process, where all donors and employees must wear face masks. Customers will place items in donation bins, all donations will be isolated prior to sale, and receipts will be e-mailed.

Goodwill says donations will resume at Pasadena East Retail Store, located at 183 Altadena Drive, and at the Pasadena Fair Oaks Retail Store, at 340 S. Fair Oaks Ave.

The Pasadena (Arroyo) Attended Donation Center at 112 E. California Blvd., and the Pasadena Book Store and Boutique/Donation Center at 703 N. Lake Ave. will remain closed until further notice.

  • I visited the store on Monday, June 8, excited to see it had reopened. This is what I observed: A young employee organizing shelves was wearing a mask, however he was continuously hacking a horrible cough you could hear throughout the store. More than one customer was not showing any respect with maintaining distance. It seemed intentional even, or at best oblivious to those 1 foot from them. I quickly beat a path out of there and will not be returning.
